Life By Design

Question for you. If you could live anywhere that your heart desires, where would that be? Big farm with lots of land? NYC in a penthouse suite? Up in the mountains where you could ski? Overseas in another country?

This is it for me. When I wrote down what my ideal life would look like a few years ago, part of it was that I didn’t want to have to wait all year for a vacation. Most of our vacations were to warm weather climates with pools, sunshine, and the beach. That’s what my husband and I both enjoy.

I wanted to live like I was on vacation all the time…52 weeks a year instead of 1 or 2. I wrote down my specific desires and what that would look like, feel like and all of the little details. I wrote about my kids riding their bikes, taking walks in the evening as family, and being friends with all my neighbors.

Life by Design

When we first came to Florida to research communities and towns, we looked at a lot of options. I vividly remember when we drove into this neighborhood. I started jumping in my seat in the car saying, “This is it! This is it!”

It was like it matched up with what was in my brain for the ideal place. My husband didn’t jump up and down but he said he felt the same about it.

One thing I learned from my coach is that your goals and dreams shouldn’t be general. They have to be *very* specific. What does your morning look like? What are you doing during the day? Who is with you? Where do you live?

So many books I’ve read say that you cannot create something new in your life until you create it in your MIND first.

So today, I give you permission to dream a little bit. Start writing it down and figuring out the details. Right now it may just be a vision, but once you define it…you can take steps to get there.

My Monthly Goals

One thing I’ve learned since being a coach is the importance of making goals, turning them into doable action items, writing them down, and tracking them. So today I want to share my monthly goals.

I used to never set goals back when I was working at my corporate job. I would just hum-drum through life and accept how it went. My life was a result of circumstances, other people, my job, and just going through the motions. My mood was also a result of those things.

my monthly goals

Now I am working on being more INTENTIONAL about my life, how I spend my time, and what I do with the days I have here on this earth. Through personal development, I learned a lesson that’s made a HUGE impact on me. Want to hear it?

It’s that “I am 100% responsible for my life.” The first time I heard that, I thought OUCH! That’s not true. I can blame things on this and that and outer circumstances.

It’s true that things happen to us. A loved one dies. We have a medical issue. We get let go from our job. Things happen. There will always be “problems” in your life.

BUT, ultimately we are the ones who are 100% responsible for how we respond and react to those circumstances. We decide. We decide what we do with our time, how we manage our money, what we put in our bodies, and what we want for our futures.

While it’s a lot of responsibility, it’s also EMPOWERING. Because you get to take your power back.
Since it’s the beginning of July, I’m writing down a few goals in different areas along with ACTION items. Goals are just wishes until you take action. I’ll share a few of mine.

1. Marriage Bond – We’ve had a stressful few months with moving so I want to reconnect more with my husband. We will go on TWO dates this month without the kids. I also want to take family walks at least 3 times a week in the evening. This gives us time to connect and talk without technology.

2. Reading with my girls! – During the move, I haven’t been good about reading with the girls before bed and I know how important it is to read. I also need to encourage my rising 2nd grader to read each night. So, my action items is that we are going to the library tonight to get some new books and library cards. And we are going to go up for bed at 7:30 each evening so that we have time to take baths and read before bedtime.

3. Business – I know that I have something really special to share with other moms. Beachbody isn’t just a company, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a lifestyle that values health, fitness and good nutrition. It’s a lifestyle that helps parents have more freedom to be with their kids. It’s a lifestyle that values personal growth. My goal is to share this opportunity with 10 new people this month so I can get them started on their journey.

So, there you have it! Those are a few of my monthly goals. I’d love to hear what some of yours are for July.

How I Painted My Computer Monitors

I know you know me for health and fitness, but one of my hobbies is DIY projects. I am moving very soon and I’ve been going on Pinterest for new office ideas. All of the pins that I love show an office that is white (like a white desk, white chair, etc.)

I use 3 monitors when I work (believe me…it’s a lifesaver!) and the monitors are black and they will just not go well with the vision I have for my new office (which is white and pink!!). And I don’t know if you can just go out and buy a white monitor for a PC, so I went on YouTube to figure out how to paint my monitors. It’s super simple. Here are the steps that I took!

#1: Tape off areas that you do not want to paint. I am not painting the back panel or the actual screen. So I put paper over those parts and then used tape to make sure that I don’t get paint on those areas.

#2: Take the actual stand for the monitor off. It’s pretty simple; there should be an area where you can put a screwdriver into the back of the monitor to release and remove the stand.

#3: Lightly sand all the areas that you are going to paint. You want to get rid of all the gloss so that the paint will adhere to it better.

#4: Wipe it down with a towel (I used a micro-fiber towel) to get all the dust off.

#5: Find an area where you can paint that has ventilation. I did this in my garage with the door open.

The type of paint I used is Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2x Ultra Cover Paint & Primer. It says on the can that it is meant for plastic. I got the “semi-gloss” and I was happy with the result.

#6: Spray paint the computer (hold about 6 inches away). Use sweeping motions and don’t put too much on in one coat or it will start running.

#7: Let it dry about 30 minutes between coats. Continue to add light coats until you have the coverage you want.

#8: Let it dry overnight.

And now, you have a WHITE monitor! I also did this with my speakers and video camera that I clip to my computer. Then I bought a white keyboard and mouse set from Amazon for about $20.

I would love to hear how your painting project goes! Hope this helps!

How Resistance Impacts Us

How Resistance Impacts UsI want to talk about something new that I learned. It’s about RESISTANCE. I used to think that the thing that held me back from doing what I wanted was fear. But in most cases, I believe it’s actually resistance.

Resistance comes anytime you want to do something new and out of your comfort zone. It’s insidious. It can trick you.

I’ll give you an example. My coach challenged me to do some cold calls to people who filled out a survey about their health and fitness goals. When she first mentioned this, my stomach dropped. My first thought was, “I cannot do that.”

Even though I eventually agreed to do them…resistance was pushing hard on me. I could think of 100 OTHER things to do before I made those calls. I procrastinated. I reasoned with myself. I busied myself with other activities that I told myself were more important (which wasn’t true).

Today I had a goal to cold call 7 people. I could FEEL the resistance rising up in me. I could feel the excuses, the other things I’d rather do, etc. BUT, since I now know what it is, I can beat it. I decided to drop everything and push through it.

Part of our journey here is to become who we are meant to be. And to do that, we have to figure out how to move through the resistance that we all naturally have. We all have it. And it’s very powerful. But you are more powerful if you choose to confront it.

I recently read a whole book about resistance which I found FASCINATING. You can download the entire book for free at the link below.

I’d encourage you to ask yourself WHERE are you facing resistance in your life? What do you need to push through it?

Here are some of the quotes from the book the The War of Art:

We’re wrong if we think we’re the only ones struggling with Resistance. Everyone who has a body experiences Resistance.

Resistance cannot be seen, touched, heard, or smelled. But it can be felt. We experience it as an energy field radiating from a work-in-potential. It’s a repelling force. It’s negative. Its aim is to shove us away, distract us, prevent us from doing our work.

Resistance will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will perjure, fabricate, falsify; seduce, bully, cajole. Resistance is protean. It will assume any form, if that’s what it takes to deceive you. It will reason with you like a lawyer or jam a nine-millimeter in your face like a stickup man. Resistance has no conscience. It will pledge anything to get a deal, then double-cross you as soon as your back is turned. If you take Resistance at its word, you deserve everything you get. Resistance is always lying.

Manifesting What You Want

Manifesting What You WantDo you really know what you want? Are you clear about it? Are you courageous enough to dream big?

I just wrote this post on my like page but I thought I would share it here too. I’m also including a video link that shares the steps on manifesting.

Here’s the thing folks. Exactly 3 years ago I had been a coach for 2 months. I was waking up at 4am each day. I was rushing off to Starbucks on my lunch break to message people. I was working towards my dream.

A LOT of people thought my idea to leave my corporate job and become a full-time Beachbody coach was crazy. Even I thought it was a little crazy sometimes. BUT, I believed I could. I set forth a vision of what I wanted my life to be. And then I took ACTION. I started to do the activities which would help bring me towards the lifestyle I wanted to manifest.

You all can do this too. You can. It takes courage. It takes dedication. It takes faith. But you can.
This afternoon I have been working on BUILDING my dream home in Florida. No, I’m not outside with a hammer and nails, wiring electricity, or putting in plumbing. It’s much better than that.

The tools I’m using are my belief, my imagination, my desire, my vision. And I use those tools to clear out the negativity, feelings of unworthiness, and the status quo to create the environment which would feed my soul and serve myself, my family and others.

I’m pushing through resistance. I’m creating clarity and inciting action. It’s scary and exciting all at once.

You may think manifesting is all “woo-woo”. And that’s okay.

But if you are open to learning more, I’m posting a video link about it in the first comment.

Manifesting: Acquiring the experience of what you want to feel and being, living, and believing in that experience
and then allowing that experience to come into form.
